Write Down Your Goals

Before setting up an online business, you need to ask yourself what you are aiming for. The obvious answer is to make money online, but apart from that you should have a sense of direction – a plan. The money is the result of good planning and effective marketing.

The bottom line is that it’s not really about money, it’s about freedom and lifestyle. If you set your business up the right way, it can get to the point where it’s working FOR you 24/7. But that won’t happen overnight.

Take Action

If you fail to plan you are ultimately planning to fail. You must take a few moments to sit down and write down your goals. Most people don’t do this, so their focus becomes just in chasing the money. Perhaps it’s an overseas trip or a house on the beachfront or simply giving up your job. Write them down and then visualize them, putting yourself in the picture. Believe that you can achieve them.  Never lose sight of your goals and never give up. Write a pledge to yourself that you will take ACTION. Most people fail because they don’t take action!

Billions of sales take place every day on the internet. Make it your business to be someone who buyers WANT to purchase from. The aim is to develop a trustworthy presence online. Be patient. Be passionate. Don’t give up your day job – yet.

Learn Marketing

There are many ways to make money on the internet and I’ll get into that in due course. But for the purpose of learning how to be an internet marketer,  Alex Jeffreys, my mentor, suggests that the best place to start is in the internet marketing niche itself. Learning how to run an online business first is the key, before applying the same principles later in your chosen field.

Help Newbies

I have set aside my plans for my chosen niche and am concentrating now on helping newbies to get started. This is a massive niche and I suggest that you start with this too. Every day thousands of hopefuls are turning to the internet to start an online business but get lost because they don’t know how to run the business and do the marketing.

The most effective base for your business is a blog where you record the steps you are taking and the methods you are using to build your business. In the process you are helping people and hopefully providing valuable information. If you offer good content for free, you will start to build a list of loyal subscribers. When you keep in constant contact and build relationships with them, they will respect your advice and ultimately will want to purchase products that you review and recommend.

Try to develop your blog as a haven where people can come to learn stuff  that will help them move forward. Be yourself, share your knowledge and your personal journey with your readers and respond to their comments and questions.

“Don’t chase money, let money chase YOU!”

Eventually you can recommend products that you have personally found to be useful, but don’t push them down people’s throats or they won’t come back. “People love to buy, but they hate being sold to”. Offer proven solutions but avoid using the ugly hype that drives people away.

Your blog will become the hub of your online business, so you’ll want to make it interesting and resourceful.

So, before you jump into the deep end get yourself a blank book and record everything

  • Take some time out to write down and visualize your goals.
  • Make a pledge to yourself to take action.
  • Set achievable income targets for a year from now.
  • Set a 90 day target to establish a blog and build a list of subscribers.
  • Don’t try to go it alone. You have to be a follower in order to become a leader.
  • Don’t spend money on stuff you don’t need yet.
  • Often you can find free ebooks and videos to help you.
  • Be passionate, honest and committed to success.
  • Don’t be afraid and never give up!

In the next post, I’ll post an article that I wrote last year – about advice for newbies
