Beware of Sharketers!

Well Hello! Allow me to introduce myself. I am Gail Fay from the hinterland of Byron Bay, the easternmost point of Australia, and I’m a perpetual student (as we all are) of Internet Marketing. My sincere thanks go to my numero uno mentor and buddy, the amazing Alex Jeffreys, from the other side of the world in downtown Cardiff, Wales, UK.

Alex has taught me SO much and on this blog I am going to share his teachings with you. But first, let me tell you a story that might make your toes curl!

In 2007, I made the decision to start an online business, but soon found out that I was pretty clueless. It was like being adrift alone on a raft in the middle of the ocean – with no oars, no sail, nobody. I’m sure you can relate to that.

Then one day, completely out of the blue, I got a call from a guy who seemed to know exactly what I was going through. We talked for a couple of hours about my online aspirations and what he & his team could do to make them a reality. I was very impressed and excited. It was a dream come true. I was going to be rescued and taught how to make thousands of dollars within 30 days, increasing to $30,000 a month in a very short time.

My gut feeling told me that this was too good to be true. I was very hesitant but I’d heard that everyone needs a mentor to succeed online and he was offering one-on-one personal coaching with a high-profile millionaire marketer and his personal money-back guarantee of success. I had nothing to lose! So nervously, I signed up.

Scam!

But what started as a dream soon became an absolute nightmare. The bottom line was that I’d been scammed to the tune of $US15,000. When the realization sunk in, I was horrified. I felt sick, hurt, embarrassed, ashamed and above all – very, very angry. The guy was a “Sharketer” – a shady internet marketer.

I tried to get a refund, but was told that there were no guarantees. It had been told a total pack of lies. So there I am with a huge credit card debt and nothing to show for it, but worst of all, no means to repay the compounding debt. I was determined to get to the bottom of it. I checked the internet and found that other people had been sucked in by the same company.

I threatened to report the company to the authorities, make a video for YouTube and expose these sharketers online. The millionaire emailed me and told me that nobody would listen to little me. I was just small fry.

When I was a kid, if somebody told me that I couldn’t achieve something, I would go out of my way to prove them wrong. I’m a “terrier”!

Alex Jeffreys Saves the Day

I can’t remember how I found Alex, but some time during this scam crisis I signed up to his list and was most impressed by his integrity and generosity.

At that time he proclaimed himself “a puppy marketer” and I loved his enthusiasm and tell-it-like-it-is style. When he announced that he was going to run a coaching course, I jumped at the opportunity and scraped together enough to register. (Mind you, the cost was a mere fraction of what the “Sharketer” charged.)

I had a ball! I must admit that I did struggle with the technical aspects. After all, I was a complete newbie. I tried to set up a blog by myself but was reduced almost to tears with frustration. I was surprised to learn that Alex is a technophobe and has never set up a blog himself – he outsources pretty much all the technical stuff. My problem was finding the money, but in the end, I found a guy on getafreelancer.com who tidied up my mess and got me started for $40.

Soon I found myself doing all sorts of stuff I’d never done before. It was a challenge, but I was learning and doing real stuff. In the back of my mind a plan was beginning to form about how I was going to expose these criminals. I emailed the Sharker of my plan and gave him a final opportunity to do the right thing. I vowed to never give up. I was met with blank silence.

Power of Social Media

I spent almost every waking hour researching and documenting this scam. I put up a blog, built a list of victims and published their experiences. This is the Attention Age and social media is King. Alex talks about the Guru’s Nightmare. The sharketers can no longer hide.

Earlier this year, my case was resolved. I have written an ebook entitled “Sharketer!” to help victims of shady marketers. All my steps to resolution are outlined. If anyone is interested in a copy, please contact me and I will email it to you. email: admin@gailfay.com

So now I’m back in the real world after being sidetracked for over a year. I need to start again to set up my online business. I will be documenting the process – the journey. Stay tuned. Please join me on “My Excellent Online Adventure”.

As Alex Jeffreys and his student community guide me, allow me to share this knowledge with you. And PLEASE – Never Give Up!
